B&H Photo is selling the Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph digital camera for just $175.95, a great price for this top-rated consumer-friendly point-and-shoot camera.

One thing we really like about this camera is just how tiny the darn thing is: at 2.1 x 3.4 x .76 inches, the camera weighs a mere 4.4 ounces. It won’t cause your front shirt pocket to droop and it will fit just as easily in your front jeans pocket.

The camera’s small profile, while a major selling point, wouldn’t mean a thing if it wasn’t also loaded with easy-to-use features and capable of taking great point-and-click photographs; we’re pleased to report that here’s where the SD1000 really proves its worth, especially in the sub-$200 price range.

The SD1000 features a generous 2.5” LCD screen, 7.1 megapixels, 3x optical zoom and can shoot 3072 x 2304 pixels at the highest resolution. The camera records video and audio, has several visual effect modes, works great in macro mode, and even features a “children and pets” setting to capture more near-simultaneous shots of those restless subjects in your life.

The drawbacks are small and easily remedied but still worth mentioning: the camera comes with only one proprietary NB-4L Lithium-ion battery and adding a second battery is expensive in relation to the low cost of the camera. Also, the camera ships with a stingy 32MB SD memory card, so you’ll certainly want to pick up a 1GB or 2GB SD card with your purchase.
