Purple Haze

By Jeff Von Ward

I’m still rubbing my eyes trying to get my bearings while taking in Allyssa Kaiser’s “Storm Approaching”, the latest entry in our Photobird Photo Contest. Allyssa has really teased out the storm clouds in this shot, possibly with a Tiffen FL-D filter or post-image processing, so that the clouds hang low and threatening, casting an eerie shade of magenta above the snow-covered pines.

The effect is really fitting for this month’s contest theme: “Cool”. Well, it gave me the shivers, anyway. The Photobird Photo Contest is free to enter and, with just over two weeks left in the month, there’s still plenty of time to get your photo in.

At the end of the month, two winners will be awarded. Each winner will receive the following cool prizes:

Photobird account with 500MB storage space
• 1GB SanDisk Ultra II memory card (you choose the format)
Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson

So be sure to read more details about the monthly contest here.

And click here to enter the March contest. While you’re at it, you can vote for your favorite entries, and get the word out to have your friends and family vote for your entry. Who knows, you just may end up winning the contest!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask us in the Photobird forums.
