Ducks and Sunset in People, Places and Things

If you like photos of cute ducks and dramatic sunsets, be sure to check out the recently updated People, Places and Things feature on the Look at Pictures page. Coincidentally, all three pictures are provided by Photobird Award winners from past Photobird Photo Contests.

First up is Robert Romero’s “Proud Mama“, shown above. According to the description of the photo, Robert actually fed the mother duck while she sat on her eggs. That’s a very impressive feat, if you ask me! Very cute photo too! The composition is perfect and the subject matter is very unique. Robert won the Photobird Award for the Photobird Photo Contest for February 2008 with his photo “Just Peachy“. You can see more of Robert’s photos at http://www.photobird.com/theshootest/.

Next, John Maher shares a photo of a few ducks from his favorite spot in Milford, Pennsylvania, with his photo entitled “Just Ducky“. I can envision the ducks waddling through as they search for food or just a comfortable place to relax in the landscape. John’s photo has great color and saturation, especially in the green of the grass and foliage. John won the Photobird Award a year ago in the Photobird Photo Contest for July 2007 with his photo “relaxing in the hot summer sun“. Vicki Tinnon closes out this group of photos with a beautiful sunset photo entitled “After the Rain“, taken after a storm in Wayne, Nebraska. A key feature of this photo is that Vicki uses the concept of the Rule of Thirds, which we’ve written about quite a bit, to frame the landscape and the setting sun in the lower third of the photo, while the passing clouds fill the upper two-thirds of the frame. This technique she uses gives a great sense of depth to the photo. You can almost feel the enormity of the passing storm. Vicki recently won the Photobird Award for the Photobird Photo Contest for May 2008 with her photo “Moving In“. You can see more of Vicki’s photos at http://www.photobird.com/vickitinnon/.

If you’d like to have one or more of your photos featured in People, Places and Things, submit your favorite photos for consideration by simply following the same steps you would take for submitting a photo for the Photobird Photo of the Hour:

1. View the photo you want to submit from your photo album.
2. Click the “Submit for Photo of the Hour” checkbox.

That’s it!

The photos in People, Places and Things are updated regularly. Check the bottom of the People, Places and Things section on the Look at Pictures page for details on how to be notified when an update occurs. We’ll also let you know right here in the Photobird blog whenever they’re updated.

One last note: If you’d like to have your photos featured in People, Places and Things or the Photobird Photo of the Hour, but you don’t have a Photobird account yet, stay tuned to this blog as we are planning to have a small, limited number of free Photobird accounts available in the coming weeks for photographers who would like to have their photos featured. More details will be available soon.
